Pascal VA5 is a powerful nitric acid-based descaler with a fume inhibitor, for CIP cleaning in the food and beverage industry and for removing deposits from stainless steel bottle washing machines. It is extremely effective against limescale (calcium carbonate) and calcium oxalate (beerstone), and is also used for passivating new stainless steel installations.
Its low foaming allows use in CIP systems under high pressure and turbulence, and the fume-free formulation reduces operator exposure to nitrogen oxides. The solution is conductive, so dosing and concentration can be controlled automatically. The in-use concentration is 0.5–3 % (w/w), depending on the application and the amount of deposits; in two-phase CIP cleaning it is used after an alkaline detergent (e.g. Diverspray VC13). Thorough rinsing with potable water is mandatory before food contact. pH of a 1 % solution: 1.
